Complete the following tasks and document each of the steps:
1. Install the hard drive
Powered off machine,
disconnected 120 VAC cable from Power Supply, attached wrist strap to case,
popped case, set jumpers on drive, attached IDE cable w/ proper pin 1 alignment
and correct master/slave location, physically secured w/ 4 screws, slapped case
back together, reattached 120 VAC to power supply, powered up machine, entered
BIOS and set drive up in BIOS.
2. Perform the FDISK
Booted from Win98 bootflop
Fdisk c:
Partition at 80% to 20%
Created primary and extended DOS partitions with
logical drive in extended partition using the percentage method.
3. Install the Windows 98
Rebooted from Win98 SE CD, formatted new partitions, ran setup from CD root unattended to larger partition.
4. Test the installation
Checked system control panel / device manager
for missing device drivers – installed them, went to windows update and ran all
of the updates. Restarted several
times, installed application software set and anti-virus software after configuring
network settings.
